Supporting Roxana's Volunteer Kitchen in Kharkiv: Join Our Food Collection Drive

When I recently visited Kharkiv, I met Roxana, who runs a volunteer kitchen that feeds many people every day despite the ongoing challenges in Ukraine. Her dedication inspired me deeply, and I want to invite you to join a food collection drive to support her work. This effort is a direct way to help Kharkiv and contribute to Ukraine aid, especially through grassroots initiatives like Roxana’s Street Kitchen.

Why Roxana’s Volunteer Kitchen Matters


Roxana’s kitchen is more than just a place to prepare meals. It is a lifeline for many families and individuals affected by conflict and hardship. The kitchen operates daily, providing hot meals to those who might otherwise go hungry. Rescue workers, displaced elderly, or families in need. Volunteering in Ukraine, especially in places like Kharkiv, shows how small acts of kindness can create a big impact.


The kitchen faces constant challenges, including shortages of essential food items and supplies. That’s why this collection drive is crucial. By gathering the right items, we can ensure Roxana and her team continue their vital work without interruption.


Shopping list from Kharkiv

To support Roxana’s kitchen effectively, we are focusing on specific food and supply items that are most useful:


  • We are looking for:

    • Protein: Canned fish, chickpeas and beans.

    • Carbs: Pasta, rice, buckwheat, couscous, and flour.

    • Essentials: Sunflower oil, sugar, and salt.

    • Quick Meals: Instant soup and energy bars.

    • Tea & Coffee: To keep spirits high!

    • Party tents (to create sheltered spaces for food distribution)

    To help a refugee home, where Roxana helps out, we need :

    • Beddings, Mattress protectors (Ikea) 90 x 200

    • Bed covers, Blankets

    • Pillows


These items are chosen because they are easy to store, transport, and prepare, and they meet the immediate needs of the people Roxana serves.

The truck carrying the collected items will leave Budapest on the 28th of March, heading directly to Kharkiv. This means your contributions will reach Roxana’s kitchen quickly and safely.

For example, last year a similar food collection helped supply over 5,000 meals in Kharkiv during winter. Roxana’s kitchen was able to expand its reach and serve more families because of community support like this.
